After reading We Remember the Black Battalion, engage the students in a discussion about discrimination. Define what discrimination entails and ask whether they believe it still exists today. While the book focuses on racial discrimination, encourage them to explore other forms as well.

In the book, you will learn about soldiers who were segregated based on their skin colour. Engage the class in a discussion about the implications of segregation and speculate on how it may have affected the soldiers' emotions. Then, read the book We Remember the Black Battalion.
